Sometimes Prostate cancer has no sign and symptoms at its initial stage but with the passage of time when cancer becomes advance then it shows sign and symptoms. Prostate cancer in men that is more advanced may cause signs and symptoms such as:

  • Trouble urinating
  • Decreased force in the stream of urine
  • Blood in the urine
  • Blood in the semen
  • General pain in the lower back, hips or thighs
  • Discomfort in the pelvic area
  • Bone pain
  • Erectile dysfunction
  • Fecal incontinence
  • Increase urination at night(Nocturia)
  • General debility

Prostate Cancer Causes in Men

If we see what are the Causes of Prostate Cancer, main cause of prostate cancer is still unknown but number of risk factors that have very important role in the development of prostate cancer are discussed below.

  1. Prostate Cancer caused by Genetic Predispositions

    Genetic predisposition means if person has family history of being involved in prostate cancer then there are 30-40% chances that one can also be affected by same disease.No one single gene is being involved in prostate cancer number of different genes have been implicated.

    Research has shown that mutations in genes like BRCA1 and BRCA is an important risk factor for the development of many cancers like ovarian cancer,breast cancer and prostate cancer.

    Other genes associated with genetic predisposition are  Hereditary Prostate cancer gene 1 , androgen receptor, and the vitamin D receptor.

  2. Prostate Infection could cause Prostate Cancer

    Infection of prostate is termed as prostatitis.This infection  may be caused by bacteria,virus or sexually transmitted.This infection or prostatitis will cause  inflammation and swelling of prostate.This inflammation of the prostate may increase the risk of prostate cancer but it is still controversial because other studies has shown different results.

    Moreover, sexually transmitted diseases (STD) such as chlamydia, gonorrhea, or syphilis may also increase the risk of prostate cancer..Another important risk factor of prostate cancer is obesity and elevated blood levels of testosterone.

    Age factor is another important cause of prostate cancer because with passage of time prostate become large known as prostate hypertrophy while some people develop benign prostatic hypertrophy which is tumorous form of prostate.Age related prostate cancer is common in age of 60’s and onward.Best way to diagnose age related prostate cancer is identification prostate specific antigen and digital ultrasound that told you that what is the actual size of  your prostate.

  4. Prostate Cancer due to Dietary Deficiencies

    Research has shown that dietary deficiencies have also role in development of prostate cancer.Deficiency of minerals and important nutrients like selenium,zinc,biotin,calcium,vitamin B12 and vitamin D have role in prostate cancer development.Vitamin D is most important vitamin necessary for healthy prostate.

  1. My husband has been having trouble urinating in the past weeks, and he’s also been experiencing pain in the pelvic area. I had no idea that these two are symptoms of prostate cancer. Besides, I never knew that the age factor can be a cause. With that said, I am hoping to find a good doctor that can provide the right treatment for him.
